we were in the NICU from April 20, 2004 until Aug. 11, 2006 at the Medical Center of Central Ga. Anyone else there during that time.

Hi Everyone!!!

My name is Maria Guzman. I live in Gwinnett County in Norcross. I gave birth my little boy last year in Northside Hospital but it wasn't in God's plans for him to survive. I have to say though, the people there are so wonderful. They truly made our stay there which was about 3 days so much easier and even after we came home they would still call and email me to let me know they were there for us. That is such a wonderful hospital. In about 2-3 weeks, I will be delivering my second baby, a boy at that same hospital. Well, I just wanted to say hi. I just found this part of the site and its wonderful to chat with people that live near by. Thanks.

Georgia Peach Quadruplets

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. I'm Cindi and my husband Riley and I have 8 year old quadruplets. Three girls and a boy. They were born 3 1/2 months premature and the girls had a 3 month stay in the NICU and my son a four month stay. We have some issues but all in all they are doing very well for being born so early. The best blessing is that they all made it home to us. It could have easily gone the other way.

For all of you with preemies I invite you to check out a new website called PreemieCare (www.preemiecare.org) It's a wonderful new website that is full of information on preemies. Check it out and share it with your friends/families of preemies.

It's great to see another GA mom! There aren't to many of us. I am so glad you were able to bring all 4 kiddos home!! That's pretty amazing. Thanks for the website I'll check it out later today. Are you north, south, or central GA? I'm in Middle GA about an half hour south of Macon. There are several families around Atlanta on the site. Anyway just wanted to say welcome and I hope you enjoy Share. It's always great to have moms with older preemies on board to help all the newbies.

Mommy to Kamryn (32 weeks)

My name is Stephanie, my husband Brian and I live in Cumming, GA and I work in Alpharetta.

Kamryn was born on August 27 at North Fulton Hospital weighing 4lbs 8oz and spent 3 weeks in the NICU. She is now 5 months old and a very healthy 11lbs 12 1/2 oz. Since her homecoming on September 18 she spent 4 days at CHOA for Bronchiolitis and 16 days there again for RSV (ventilated, sedated...you get the idea).

I would love to meet other families of preemies in the area. My friends with full term babies just don't understand the life of a family with a preemie, especially one who got so sick after she came home.

We didn't have her at Northside BUT I am very interested in perhaps joining you all for WalkAmerica. If we are welcome I would love it if someone could get in touch with me with more information. My email is smcampbe@campbell-crazies.com.

Ahh....other Georgia mommies! I didn't realize that this aspect of the website was here, but I'm glad that Shonda pointed it out in another area.

My name is Tracy, and I live in NE Georgia about 35 miles east of Athens. (Yes, right on the SC line.) I have friends in Cumming and visit there sometimes, but I think I'm way to far away to participate with the N. Fulton walk. Besides, I am the chairperson for the committee in my county so I think I'll do my part here! My girls were born at Athens Regional and transferred out to Gwinnett Medical weighing in at 2 lbs. 2 oz. (Taylor - lived 15 hours) and 1 lb. 4 oz. (Ansley--one WILD 3 1/2 year old!)

I'm glad that I found out where the people who still get excited at snow flurries are.... They found it funny yesterday when I mentioned that we were closed for the ice last week.

It's me again...I was just wondering if this folder could be moved somewhere else. (I don't know what that entails so just say so if it's not possible.) I've just noticed that there are so many on the sight looking for others in their area who have never visited this folder. To be honest, I didn't know this existed either until about a week ago when Shonda or someone mentioned it in another folder. It'd just be great to meet some people from my area too. I think that the "Get Involved" title throws some people off b/c they think it's a volunteer sight or ideas for getting involved only. Just a thought....

Congraduations

Kennestone is a great NICU, we spent 10 weeks there in 05 with our 28 weeker. I had meant to do a team but I had forgotten all about it. I'm an accountant and Apirl 14th aint going to happen with me, but I will see about sending our bundle of joy and his mother and the family, even if I have to bust some heads. I grew up in Woodstock and my family still lives there.
The staff at the NICU there were family for our time there, was Dr. Casanova there when you were?

Yes, Dr. Casanova was there. We saw a lot of her, but Dr. Marino was Kaylin's official doctor. They do have a wonderful NICU. We got close to several of the nurses in there as well. My husband and I went mostly in the evenings after he got off of work and my mom and in laws went in the afternoons.

Did you ever have a chance to meet a nurse name Malese? She was Kaylin's first nurse and is the one who named her Miss Priss that first night. That is where the inspiration for the team name came from...lol.

I totally understand about April 14 with all the taxes...lol. I love for them to join us. Just send them to my page.

We had so many nurses that I can't even remember their names but I still run into them around town and say hello. Dr Marino was there when we were. The 2 nurses I remember by name were Lynn and Melissa, Melissa was a night nurse that always was dressed in black. There was a black nurse who was the head of PoPs that I never can remember her name. She had a baby in the NICU herself back a few years ago, so she knew about the experience.
When we started there we had a private room for a few weeks than moved up to the 2 babies per room. We seemed to always get the roommate that was a DFACS baby. The parents had given up parential rights because either they could not or didn't want to care for a possible special needs child.

We were in a 2 bed room for most of her stay. Then she was moved to under the stars. We never had a DFACS baby in our room. But we saw many babies come and go.

Hey, I was just checking out what was new on the Georgia page, and saw that both of you had babies at the Kennestone NICU. Our twins were born at Cobb Hospital, and then transported to Kennestone's NICU the next afternoon, they were out of room at Cobb! Dr. Marino was awesome, she even had it approved to move the twins back to Cobb once they were doing well, (after 6 weeks), and they then spent 2 more at Cobb. We were moving into a new house, and the drive to Kennestone would have been over an hour. We live in Douglasville, almost in Carrollton. We have gone back to visit the nurses and Dr's. there a few times. Our twin boys were born Feb. 1, 2005. Were any of you there from then until March of 2005? Liz

Hey---Georgia action! I check this folder almost daily to find others in my state, but there is rarely new messages. My twins were born in Athens, but were transferred to Gwinnett Medical in Lawrenceville. Needless to say, I'm not from the Atlanta area, but I am from Georgia so I feel connected!! I am now the mommy to a 4 year old (almost) here and one in Heaven! Glad to know of others in the south!

We just missed you than at Kennestone. We went home on Jan 29, 2005. We were in a room until about a 1 1/2 weeks before going home, than got moved to a big room. We were in there over Christmas and I remember having the male doctor dressed as Santa and one of the nurses dressed as Mrs Claus come around for pictures and such. The whole experience there was outstanding. We have tried to get a reunion started of all the parents before but it never got going because of the lack of parents in the area, kinda like Northside does.
The one thing I remember most was that about 6 weeks after he was born, the families except for our parents hadn't seen him. 2 of the nurses helped to carry him and the equipment out of his incubator and room to the main area where even though they couldn't touch him, all the families got to view him for about 30 minutes.

need help finding a ga nicu

I'm searching for the BEST of the best in Georgia -- I was wondering if I could get some thoughts from parents who have been there . . . which hospital is considered the "best" NICU? I am in the Atl metro area, I'm considering Wellstar Cobb, Piedmont, and of course Northside. Any thoughts would be so appreciated!!!

My daughters were transferred to Gwinnett Medical in Lawrenceville. We loved it there... The staff was so friendly and helpful with both us and our children! I also have a friend who was doing part of her nursing experiences at Northside and was pleased with the staff there as well.

For personal treatment and getting to know the staff, I would say Wellstar. We got to know all the doctors and nurses there.

Northside

I am a member of Parents Partnered for Preemies at Northside Hospital. Our hospital, in my opinion, is one of the best hospitals for patient support while in and after returning home. I bet you will find people with horror stories and great stories of all hospitals however, all in all the experience and numbers that Northside has every day makes me feel good to be there.

3 times a year we have family reunion's for our families. If you are interested in attending please e-mail me for details!

I was wondering if anyone was planning on attending the Annual Walk to Remember? It is hosted by the Perinatal Loss Committee of Northside Hospital.
This will be our first year going. It sounds like a great way to remember our little angels.

I didn't know about it, but I'm 2 hours from Northside anyway so I don't think we'll make it. I hope that others will be participating and if you go, please take a few steps for my sweet girls Taylor and Ansley.
