Getting Ready For Walk AmericaBearHugz - 08:38pm Dec 22, 2006 ESTMy Quinnie The PoohI need some brainstorming on a good team name. I pretty much got my entire family to get involved in the Walk America, but I am at a loss as to what to call our team. We are walking for two. My daughter, Quinn, who was born full term and my cousin, Jonathan, who was born premature. What is a good team name for us? Also, I know I went to the Share Union and you guys did awsome explaining to us how to get sponsors, but I need a refresher. How can I get sponsors? My cousins are in high school and elementary school, how can I help them get sponsors for our team? They want to participate in this too! When I do get sponsors, what do I do with them? Do they have to register through Marchofdimes.com? They will ask how to do this... what do I say? Any ideas??? Thanks a whole lot! We are going to raise a whole lot of money this year if I can just figure out how to do this. -Sarah

Hey Sarah!
How about:
2 Soon 2 Sick
since there are two of them, and one was born too soon... the other born sick? I don't know I'll think on that one some more. For sponsors, create an email... not too long... but with stats, and a brief story. Create Awareness... show photos and be brief but effective. Remember your elevator speech! Email me Love ya, Amy

Sarah, I would go to www.walkamerica.org and set up your OFT. OFT means "online fundraising tool". It's basically your team website where you can set a goal, take online donations with check, credit card and I think possible even Paypal (James? can you check with DW on this one, please?). It is very easy to use. As far as donations, send an email to your list, give them your elevator speech (a 2 min version of your story and some stats) and then give them the website address so they can click and donate. Then, send them a thank you, and keep reminding everyone. YOur teammates can also create their own OFT with funds going to your team. But first you need a team name. HTH!

I think i really like Quinnathan... Maybe I'll go for that one... I kind of wanted to emphasise though on the fact that Quinn was full term and Jon was a preemie... Just having such a hard time finding a name!!!
Also, as far as having people go online.. what if they don't have the time to go online to donate... is there a way that I can do it for them. Alot of people don't want to take the time and effort to do this... they'd rather it be done for them.
Where can I find stats?
When I do my elevator speech, what do I do with it? Do I send it to random companies? Do I knock on doors and hand it over?
-Sarah

Re: Getting Ready For Walk America
On-line donating is SO easy - but if people don't want to do it they can send you a check and you can turn those in with your on-line stuff. The money all goes to the same place!! Marchofdimes.com has some great stats. Looks like from your blog you already found those though!! I sent my elevator speech out through e-mail to everyone I knew. I also gave them permission (and encouragement!) to forward it to whomever they wanted. It included the address of my OFT (and instructions that they could e-mail me to get my physical address - I didn't put that in the e-mail since I didn't want THAT getting forwarded around). You can send it to anyone I suppose - companies, doctors, neighbors. I mostly "just" did the personal stuff through friends and family! Take care, Good luck!
