cervical cerclage question

macymarie - 03:35am Oct 3, 2007 EST

The doc. stopped my labor once at 28 weeks I was funneling then my cervix measured .8 cm then They also give me two steriod shot's . I'am getting my cervical cerclage removed in 12 days will i go into labor that day ? I'll be 37 weeks then . My doc. going to keep me 3 to 4 hrs to see if i go into labor he wants me to walk around after the cerclage is out . He told me today that i could be dilated from the inside and not even know it because of the cerclage. Does it hurt to get the cerclage removed?

Cervical Cerclage Question: Can you have intercourse after a cerclage is removed?

Re: Cervical Cerclage Question

I think it depends on when they remove it. When mine was removed I was about 35.5 weeks and was put on bedrest (no sex allowed) for another 2 weeks just to let my son cook a little longer. My son stayed put and when I reached 37 weeks I was told I could resume all "normal" activities (sex included).

Once I reached full term they considered me a normal pregnant woman so that was nice. Hope that helps!

Cerclage - Where's the Stitch?!?

Melanie, I just sent you a reply...sorry it took me so long from Thursday to get back to you. But I had a mishap with the cerclage...

As you know I was also scheduled this past Thursday for removal and unfortunately the doctor couldn't get it out. The stitch has embedded itself into my cervix. So for what he did do, searching, poking and digging did hurt. I was squeezing my husbands hand so hard. Poor man...anyway, I just wrote about it in my blog this week, here is the link if you are interested. http://www.shareyourstory.org/webx/.ef48769/

Best wishes and I hope everything went well with your procedure.

Wendy

Wendy - I do remember this happening to another Share mom, Molly. I know they had to dig around for the stitch and they eventually gave her pain meds to get through it. She went into labor pretty quickly once it was removed.

I know your blog said your dr was just going to do it when you went into actual labor and I am sure he knows what he is doing. If he had concerns he would just do it and get it done with. Did they do a ultrasound to see how deep it was (not sure if they can even tell that)?

Good Luck and keep us posted!

    Cerclage

Hello i can tell you that i too had a cerclage at 17 weeks my son was born at 26 weeks and 1 day but not because the cercalge didn't work infact it was still in tack when i went into labor and had to ahve an emergency c-section.The reason for my premature labor was an infection of the placenta. To have the cerclage for me didn't hurt one bit i wasn't aloud ot have sex my whole pregnancy but after it has been a little painful for me.To have the cerclage removed i can't speak on that either because they did that after they took my baby.

I had my cerclage put in at 14 weeks, after a few days of taking it easy, returned to reg. routine. starting spotting last week and Dr. put me on bed rest, I am now 17 week measuring 1.64 cervix.

I am not sure if there is a defined percentage of women that go into labor within a certain amount of time after the cerclage is removed. My OB did tell me that most women with true IC go into labor within 24-48 hrs after it is removed. I, however, was not one of those and carried for another 2 weeks until they induced me.

Maybe someone else has a better answer but that is about all I know! Good Luck!!!!!

removal cervical cerclage: I am getting my cerlage removed the last week in feb. I will be 36 weeks. What...

    Re: removal cervical cerclage

    Tabatha,
I had a cerclage placed at 15 weeks and just had mine removed this week at 37 weeks. My doctor told me that most women either go into labor within 24 hours of removal or after 2 weeks. I don't know if it is 50/50 or what, but that was what I was told. I did dilate to 1 right after he took my stitch out, but it has now been 3 days since my stitch was taken out and I have not gone into labor.

    Good luck!

P.S. My removal did not hurt one bit either!

My cousin just had her baby at 40 weeks, 2 days weighing 8lbs 4 oz. The baby was born almost 4 weeks after her cerclage was removed.

It's helpful to read all of your responses...thank you ladies. I too had a cerclage placed during week 17 and I have been on bedrest since then. I am in week 31 and I am beginning to discuss this with my doctor. I'm anticipating the pain and hoping that there will be no complications during removal. He informed me that during week 36 or 37 the cerclage will be removed. Aiy, I never thought pregnancy was going to be so complicated!

I had my cerclage removed at 35 weeks with only 2 milimeters of cervix...nothing happened. No labor and no contractions. I contracted my entire pregnancy... but not that day.

I had a rough cerclage removal.. but I heard from almost everyone else that it was easy.
