duodenal atresia
expecting mom - 06:59am Dec 5, 2009 ESTI am new to this site after learning from my ultrasound this week (at 20 weeks along) that my baby has duodenal atresia ("double bubble"). This term was new to me and I have been researching the topic. If anyone has insight or information to share, it would be appreciated during this overwhelming time of anxiety. I set an appt. for next week with a genetic counselor and for an amniocentisis. I have read the chances of Down Syndrome are higher with DA and am wondering if I will have a special needs baby or if DA can be corrected with surgery and the baby (girl, by the way) can lead a healthy life.

My daughter was born without DS and I do not know anyone who has had both, honestly. The genetic counsler we had was very depressing and had little hope so we did not actually do to one or have an amino done. My daughter has had her struggles but has soared above the doctors expectations. I also commented on your other post. Blessings!

I don't have advice to offer, other than I was going to post the link to the other discussion like Jackie already did. I wish you and your sweet baby girl the best! Please keep us posted and know that we're here to listen any time you need to talk. Tracy
