Granddaughter with pulmonary hypertension

Hi, my granddaughter, Kaylie, was born Mar 3 and is being treated in NICU for pulmonary hypertension and a bacterial infection. Her mommy, my daughter, is just 16 years old but bravely staying strong and we're hoping to get information and support from other families who have been through this too.

Welcome to Share!! Congratulations on the birth of your sweet granddaughter. I'm so sorry to hear that she's not feeling well, but hopefully the drs. will have it all under control quickly. My daughter had both of those situations while she was in the NICU, but is a healthy happy 6 year old now. Keep us posted on how things are going!!

    Preemie son with pulmonary hypertension

My son is currently in the NICU with pulmonary hypertension. It was pretty severe but with the help of a medication called sildenafil citrate, otherwise known as VIAGRA and nitric oxide his pulmonary hypertension is improving. As you may already know this is some ride you and your daughter are on. If I could be of any help please let me know. Sometimes speaking with people who are going through the same thing you are helps.

Hello. My name is LaToya and I gave birth to Laila on February 27th. She was 30 weeks and 1 day gestational. She has been in the NICU every since. I really find myself in a place where I NEED to talk to others in my situation. Today, Laila began to have irregular heartbeats. It's hard going to the hospital knowing that I will have to leave her there. I'm finding comfort in my Faith, and I know I'll find support here on Share.

Hello and welcome to Share! Congratulations on the birth of your sweet daughter Laila! I am sorry to hear the challenges that she is facing in the NICU right now. I have not experienced the rollercoaster ride of the NICU, but I know there are many other moms here that have. I see you've already found the parent to parent section, which is a great place to meet other moms who know have been where you are. I hope your daughter is on the road to coming home quickly.

I'm so sorry that she's having to hang out in the NICU. I hope that the heartbeats will even out for her and things will settle down. Please know that we've been there and know how difficult this is, and we're here to listen any time you need to talk.

Glad to hear your little one is doing well. I also have an Eliana~ well, actually, a Kaitlyn Eliana. She was born at 32 weeks and I thought Eliana was a very appropriate name as it means, "I am the God who answers prayers"... I'm thanking God for your 'answered prayer' as well! .... Julie

    Hello everyone

Hello to all. This has been a long time comming for me. My son Hunter was born weighing only 1 lb 13 oz. We spent 3 months in the NICU. He is now 5 years old! This I cannont believe. In the trials that was faced I was also able to personally witness a miracle from God watching him grow outside the woumb. Now I am expecting again, and to be honest, scared to death. With my son, he was my first, and I did not know what to expect...but now that I know more I find myself paranoid. I would love to talk with others on here as well as help be an encouragement to those facing the daily challenges of life in the NICU. Take care to all!

Hi Everyone. Thank you all for sharing your stories as I've found them to be very comforting. My sister gave birth yesterday to two beautiful twin boys at 25 weeks. I am consumed with worry right now and want to be as supportive as possible. Could someone please recommend books I could read to help me prepare for the long road ahead? Also, does anyone know of a poem or prayer that I could pass on to her to help her through these early days of waiting and hoping?

    Re: New to Share

Welcome to Share! Congratulations on the birth of your nephews!!

I know that this is all difficult for your entire family. I will say from the parent's standpoint, it means a lot for everyone to be there for you...especially just to let you cry or talk about everything. It's also nice to have someone to provide updates so that you're not on the phone after long days at the NICU.

I don't know of books or poems to recommend, but I do remember being told to focus on the good things and take one breath at a time. It's less overwelming that way.

I hope to hear great updates on this cute pair soon. Keep us posted.

    New to being a mom

    Hi,
My name is Heather and I am mom to boy/girl twins who were born at 31 wks 6 days. IUGR and PIH were the culprits for my emergency c-section. My daughter came out weighing 2lbs 14oz and was 15inches long. She was screaming My son came out at 4lbs 6oz and 17in long. He took a couple of breaths and then decided to let the nice neonatologist do it for him. He was on a vent for three days and nasal cannula for 3 more. The both were on TPN and had umbilical lines. Those 25 days were the longest of my life. When you leave the hospital after 96 hours, you feel like your whole world will cave in. I did get NICUits after about 18 days. I still am dealing with the postpartum depression and my feeling that I somehow caused them to be early. I still worry about developmental delays. My twins are 5.5 months old now and growing like weeds! We are breastfeeding when I am home and I pump at work. Breastfeeding preemies is hard work at first until they figure it out!

    still in NICU

    HI
I had my little girl at 24 wks and 5 days. She just turned a month old on Monday. She's eating (through a tube, of course), growing and breathing very well. She was extubated and put on CPAP yesterday! she's having some spells but the nurses keep saying that's very normal and they don't think she's having them due to fatigue, so they're going to keep her on it for the time being as long as she doesn't seem like she's working too hard. I'm just SO glad that she's doing well! she had a PDA which cleared up with medication and an IVH, which cleared up on its own. I'm just waiting for her to gain some more weight and get some control over things so we can go HOME!!!
