Matthew, 29 week Miracle

Christy

I was put on hospital bed rest in June 2010 for incompetent cervix. After three weeks, my water broke and within 24 hours I gave birth. Matthew was born at 29 weeks and was small for gestational age 2 lbs. 4.5 ounces and 14 3/4 inches long but he was strong. For the first 12 days of life, he was on room air. Then he needed a little help and was on oxygen with a nasal cannula. He was in the NICU for 57 days to grow and mature. It was discovered he had an inuginal hernia as well as a umbilical hernia which needed to be repaired. After surgery he was fine and able to eat much better. He was able to go home just 3 days after surgery. Today he is a happy 8 month old (adjusted age 5 months) who laughs, rolls, sits with support, and smiles at everyone he sees. He is still a little small 14 lbs. and 25 inches long but he is gaining well. He is our little miracle

Congratulations on baby Matthew! I'm so glad to know that he is doing well after a long NICU stay. The earliest and tiniest of babies are so strong and amazing! I bet he is just the love of your life and brings so many smiles to you and your family.

Lindsay
