Maria~ I'm sorry to hear that this little boy is getting stirred up a bit already. I don't have experience with 17p shots, but I have with Procardia and had GREAT success!! Nothing else worked at all!! I hope that things will settle down soon and that you can ease your mind a bit.

I also agree with Jackie in telling your mom. It's okay to give it until you get to the dr. and get the facts, but trying to hide it will be super stressful and you'd hate for her to hear it from someone else.

Hugs to you!!!

Maria,
I'm sorry you are going through this.. I did the 17P shots with my twins.. I got a big lump at the injection site (my butt) for just about a week, (time for the next one, oh joy ) but other than that, there weren't many side effects.. They made it to 26+3..

Thank you all so much. I'm now at the hospital, I was admitted yesterday with pre-term labor, the Procardia was not doing the trick. I also have a severe bladder infection which is also causing lots of pain, I'm now on antibiotics for that. I'm hoping I get to go home soon. Please keep me and my little boy in your prayers. Thanks you.

Mommy to Chris (38.4 weeks) now 5! and ^Luis Fernando^ (22 weeks) and Johnathan (36 weeks)

Thanks yall! I just had an ultrasound, my cervix is looking good. When we arrived on Sunday, the first doctor that checked me said I was 50% effaced, scared the crap out of my and made my blood pressure drop. But thank God everything is ok with my baby. He's lookng good in growth and plente of fluid and I did have a few contraction last night but I had been given a stool softner and was soooo crampy, they went away now. I was just given some Phenegran and I'm sleepy now. Just waiting for doctors orders on wether I can go home or not. I really hope I can go home, I miss my boys so much. Chris came to see me Sunday and yesterday and he kept saying of the baby was hurting me and that if I stayed here I would have to walk home cause he was taking the car with his dad, he's too cute.

Funny story- My mom loves taking Chris to church, I don't know why because he misbehaves so badly. Anyways, my dad went with them on Sunday and Chris kept kicking and misbehaving so my dad told him, "You need to behave because Jesus is looking at you" and pointed to the cross. Chris answers, "he's not looking at me, he's looking down". Kids say the funniest things.

Maria~ I hope that things are settling down with this little man!! No more early visits please! I makes my nerves get all out of whack!!

That's too funny about Chris and his interpretation of where Jesus is looking.

Thank you all for the well wishes. I was discharged from the hospital today. It feels so good to be home. One of my doctors said we escaped the bullet this time, and that he didn't know how much longer my cervix will hold on. I'm now on Indocin, Procardia, and had my first P17 shot yesterday. I'm 23 weeks now and hoping and praying that I get to 30, thats my first goal. I'm gonna rest now, the meds make me drowsy.

Mom to Emilyn and Hailey (our 20 week angels) and Elim (our 38 week, full term miracle)!

Maria: So glad that you were stable enough to go home! If I've learned anything, it's that doctors don't know everything! Two doctors told me I wouldn't get pregnant that cycle, yet here is Elim. When I was admitted at 28/9 weeks my OB told me that she thought I would make it to "maybe" 34 weeks before delivering yet I got to 38. Another doctor told me I probably wouldn't make it to full term when I was admitted at 32 weeks but I did! So hold onto the hope that your cervix will hold nice and strong to deliver a healthy and full term little one! Keeping you close in my thoughts and prayers!

Mommy to Chris (38.4 weeks) now 5! and ^Luis Fernando^ (22 weeks) and Johnathan (36 weeks)

Thank you all, thanks for keeping my little bun and me in your prayers.

Stacy- You're right, some doctors just talk and don't really know what they're talking about, they can't predict the future. I'm really hoping to get far enough so my boy doesn't have to go to the NICU. Just the thought of that scares me. I was moved to the high risk perinatal unit shortly after we arrived and just the thought of being there freaked me out. Thank you for your prayers. I know how much you went through also to make sure lttle Elim made here on time, he's just so darn cute!

I have two appointments on Tuesday and my 2nd P17 shot, my first one hurt but it doesn't matter as long as it helps me carry my boy a little longer. I'm taking it easy at home, hubby and Chris have been so good to me, also my parents, my mom took Chris today, he left pretty happy.

I hope so too Maria! I never thought I'd see 38 weeks when I was admitted at 28! P17 hurts, but you're right it is so worth it! After getting so many of them they quit hurting so much, so here's to hoping this one is better!

4-34 weekers and 26 week twins

Yes the 17 P shots hurt, but the Dr. in our NICU said they actually can help the babies grow better too, since the uterus is not irritated, the placenta is able to better pass the nutrients, ect. to the baby.. Our NEO said our twins were actually about a pound bigger than they should have been when they were born at 26+3, and she attributed it to the 17P..

Ok~ Question for all.... When do you put multiples in toddler beds?? I have 2 of 3 who can now climb out of their cribs! I'm so afraid that someone's going to get hurt, either climbing out of bed, or climbing into bed with someone else.. yet, at the same time I'm terrified to take that step into toddler beds... We currently have Tiffany with a crib tent, and Peter and Marc just in cribs.. Should I buy another crib tent? or two? or invest in 3 toddler beds? ~Sarah~

Maria, you know you can make it...as Stacy said they only guess and doctors often tell us the worst case scenarios...you can make it...I was 23 weeks when I went in with Ian and I made it to 38 weeks. I know you can too.

Hugs!!

Angel Love - May 2, 2011 9:11 pm (#66 Total: 293)

Sarah~ Your boys were both around 3 lbs. right?? My girls were born at 27 weeks and they were 1lb. 4 oz. and 2lbs. 2oz. so they were a bit bigger.....

As for the bed question....I guess it would depend on how much you trust them to be able to get out of the bed on their own... If you don't think they'll leave their beds, they you could go ahead with a bed for them, but if you think they'll terrorize the house all night---maybe a crib tent would work better.

Maria~ How are you???

Arnara - May 3, 2011 12:07 am (#67 Total: 293)

MAría: So sorry to hear all what have been happening to you...... somehow I skipped your posts. I am sure you will hold until 38 weeks +....... Well I never had IC and so no cerclage..... I have IU and all my children were premature. I took Procardia since I was 22 weeks with Valentina (my last baby), P17 shots since I was 15 weeks, so sore (beside I am a chicken for needles) but what I think that saved my pregnancy was my self imposed bed rest..... please limit your activities and put your feet up in bed..... no matter what...... I truely hope you don´t have to pass the NICU, and yo estaré rezando por ti y por tu bebé, y todas tienen razón mejor decirle a tu mamá de la forma más tranquila posible, para que no se asuste tanto y posiblemente te pueda ayudar en casa. Muchas bendiciones,

Lorena

Arnara - May 3, 2011 12:12 am (#68 Total: 293)

Sorry Sarah no advice for that problem........ ever had multiples..... must be nuts but lots of fun! Hope you can figure that out......there is any page for multiples here????? Good luck.......

Lorena

PS. yes Maria Drs. don´t know a Cr?*^R+***! Let them speak, and write your questions, and truely what help me a lot was reading and asking questions in the Pregnancy thread..... those girls really know and understand, so I told my Dr. what I think, what I want, and how we should do it, and he was great he agreed with all my "plans", wishing you the best!

4-34 weekers and 26 week twins

~ Angel Love, yes, my twins were 26 + 3, Peter was 2 lbs 13.25 oz, Marc was 2 lbs 10.5 oz (1280 and 1200 grams).. The Neo praised the 17P up and down for their size.. All my kids were pretty big though, they were all over 6 lbs 6 oz at 34 weeks.

Well, I put Tiffany in a toddler bed, since she's the oldest (and most mature, I think it's because she's a girl ) and put Peter in the one crib tent that I do have, Marc doesn't climb out yet, knock on wood, but I'm sure that's not too far away.. They've been in bed over an hour, and they're still fooling around. It's gunna be a long night!!

~Maria- Everyone is right, the Dr's don't know anything!! I continue to pray that your little one is a healthy full termer!!

Mommy to Chris (38.4 weeks) now 5! and ^Luis Fernando^ (22 weeks) and Johnathan (36 weeks)

Thank you all so much. I'm doing good, I have two appointments tomorrow, cervical check, ultrasound, P17 shot, and I get to see my high risk doctor. I called them and demanded all my appointments be with her from now on, since they were mostly with the midwife, she was good but I really need more closer monitoring. I'm also going to ask if they can be closer, they were every 4 weeks I think 3 weeks should be ok, maybe even every 2 weeks. While in the hospital I saw my peri, he's so nice and reassuring, he said they might take the cerclages out sooner because I keep having high blood pressure sometimes, no meds for that yet. Wow, I can't believe P17 shots actually help the baby grow even more, thats great! I'm nervous about the needle but whatever it takes to get my Johnathan here on time, chunky, and healthy. During my last US at the hospital the tech said he weighted 1lb. 7oz.

Sarah- I have no experience with multiples, I really want twin girls next time though, lol. That would be awesome! Chris never go out of his crib, but when he turned 2 we got him a car bed, now that he's almost 5 he's getting his first bed, we're still deciding on whether to get him a twin or a full, he's not excited though. I think tents are better, they'll eventually grow out of that stage. Good luck!

Maria - Let us know how things go.

Sarah - Sounds like you've done the right thing. Kimmie never climbed out of her crib. She went into a toddler bed when she was 3. She was 4 before she would get out of bed without someone in the room. I would be downstairs and she would be screaming my name upstairs and would stay in bed until I came up and opened the door - despite me yelling "get out of bed" back at her from downstairs.

Matt climbed out twice and then we decided it was safer to move to a toddler bed. I figured he'd be out of bed playing all hours of the night, but he did great with it. My kids are still really good about bedtime and staying in bed. But whenever they stay in the same room (at grandma's mostly) they talk and screw around for a long time. I suppose that is normal though.

Mommy to Chris (38.4 weeks) now 5! and ^Luis Fernando^ (22 weeks) and Johnathan (36 weeks)

I had my appointments today. We saw Johnathan, he's so darn cute, I can already imagine him. He's growing fine, the tech said 1lb 9 oz. He's also in the head down position. My cervix looks good, good length and closed. We went back to see my high risk OB, she said to stay at home as much as possible, and if I went out, no walking for a long period of time, I'm already doing that. She also had the nurse give me steriods for my baby's lungs in case he came early, I'll have my second dose tomorrow, let me just say those are sooooo painful, my arm hurts so bad! I came home and put a hot patch over it and went right to sleep. The P17 shot wasn't that bad. But anything to get my boy here on time a healthy.

Glad the appt went well, Maria. I didn't mind the 17P shots and I don't remember the steroid shot (I only had 1 before Kimmie made her arrival) - I was so drugged up on Mag when I got them that I don't remember hardly anything.

You're doing great! I'm so glad to hear that.

Maria- I am glad the appt went well. I am with Jackie, I was a bit out of it for the steroids but I hear it hurts if you are not...

This has been quite the week here. Nothing awful but lots of bits of not great news and to top it off we have to put Abigail back on more calorie intake drinks. She hates them. It is such a fight and DH fights that part of it too so I feel like the bad guy. Really, I so thought we were past it. I know things could be so much worse and should not complain but it has just been that kind of "ugh" week.

Jackie~ I thought the smiles were for a good checkup for Maria and the pouty face was for Ellen's high calorie drinks for Abigail....LOL!

Maria~ I had those steriod shots on of the few times I was not on Mag. and you're so right----THEY HURT!!! I can take shots like a pro, but when that nurse hit me with that, I yelled out! I want to know how you talked them into giving it in your arm....they got me right in the hip! OUCH!!!!

Ellen~ Sorry that Abigail is having to drink the "gross stuff" again. I wish that she could shake that so that she could get away from that stuff.

Speaking of weight---Ansley called me on Monday night and said, "Momma, guess how much I weigh!" I told her that I didn't know and she made me guess so I guessed 55 lbs. She said..."Point what??" I guessed point 4 and she got ill with me for guessing it exactly right!! She's such a silly girl, but is proud of her pounds these days!

I loved the smiley faces. They made me laugh whatever they were for and I needed it.

Yeah, I thought those shots wen right in the rear, at least that is what I remember in my haze...

More dribs and drabs of not great news here but i am ignoring it b/c today is going to be better...
