Sarah - Thought I responded before. How is the crib tent thing going? Sorry about the nail polish, that stinks! I would be so angry. Hope things settle down in a month or two and you can successfully "release the hounds".

Hi ladies!
Hope you all are doing well, yall must be really busy with the kiddos now that school is almost out. We went to Chris' class picnic today, it was pretty fun and he had a blast. I can't believe my boy is going to Kindergarten next year, he's getting so big.
I'm feeling a bit down though, after the picnic we went back to the classroom cause it was so hot outside. Chris is in a special ed classroom with only 7 kids. Most of them have speech issues. There's a boy in particular, he was also in Chris' class last year so I've seen his parents in all the parties, etc. He has speech issues and today he threw a really bad tantrum, I've never seen a kid act like that before. It was really bad, the assistant took him to time out after he misbehaved and he went all out, he started throwing things and screaming at the top of his lungs, she could not control him. I saw the teacher write down the time it started and then again the time it stopped. His mom didn't do nothing I guess cause he would listen more to the teacher and the assistant. About 10 minutes later it happened again, at that time the assistant principle who is a really tall man was in the room, he had to carry him out because the teacher said he was starting to have a seizure. I felt so helpless with my big belly and all and then Chris got scared so he kept holding on to me. Gosh, I felt so bad. His mom started crying and she told her husband she didn't know what to do anymore. I've just never seen that happen to a little boy before. After we left I didn't see him again, I really hope he's okay.

Maria~ I can't believe that Chris is getting so big so fast!!! As for the episode for the other child. I'm sure it was something that the teachers have dealt with more than you know. It's difficult sometimes for parents to watch what we deal with on a daily basis, especially when there are special needs included. I'm sure he'll be fine and that the school system will continue to work with his needs and help as they can. Hugs to you!! Tracy

Maria - I hate to admit it, but that story sounds like Matt sometimes. It's just like a switch flips and he can't control himself. My neighbors have watched me literally drag him in the house by his arms and legs because he's scratching, clawing, kicking at me and it's the only way I can get a hold of him. Not fun at all. Not to mention he screams at me until he's sweating and his face turns read. I'm like that mom where I start crying because I just don't know what to do. Luckily, he has never acted that way at school, he's an angel there. But at home - whew! It can be tough when he doesn't get his way. And it's worse if other kids are around because he likes the attention (despite it being "bad" attention). I know people watch me try to deal with him and think I'm a horrible parent - but I have a daughter who is wonderful so obviously, I'm not completely messed up! I'm a true believe that some kids just have a quicker trigger and Matthew is definitely one of those kids. One difference is, unlike that mom, I would have dragged my kid out myself. I won't subject a teacher to that. I'm sorry Chris got scared, I'd take it as a lesson that some kids just have a harder time controlling themselves.

Jackie- Chris has never done that before, at home or in public. I've seen other kids though at stores for example and I can see how you could easily feel helpless even if it is your own child.
The one thing I don't really like if parents not trying to deal with their kids, for example, let them cry and scream non-stop. I've seen that in public and the mother will just gone on shopping like if their child was not crying. Someone even called the cops at a Wal-mart one time. But that child had been screaming and crying for about 20 minutes, I wanted to pick the baby up and calm him down but the mom just went about her business.
Chris doesn't cry often, even as a baby. He'll just do his "sad face" and pucker his lips and the tears will come out. I think I give in to fast when he does that.
Tracy- I was doing pretty well until this morning. I had a rough night, Johnathan kicks nonstop and its hard to sleep, not to mention all the countless trips to the restroom. But this morning I felt bad, morning sickness, nausea, body ache, and I'm feeling a bit feverish. I have my appointment for my P17 shot in one hour. But other than that, I've been doing really good, taking it easy. If we go out, which is less now, I'll just sit, no walking for long periods of time. Thanks for asking. =)
I'm 27 weeks today! Gosh, time has gone by fast. I'm so happy!

Maria - Matthew has taught me a whole new respect for understanding parents who are yelling in stores or pushing a screaming kid around. I have physically dragged him out of stores, but there are times when you just can't. Like while waiting for a prescription, or needing 1 item to finish making dinner that is already partially made. And you just get through it anyway that you can. So I've learned not to judge that mom who is yelling at her kids that she's "done listening" and that she's "not buying this or that!", or "to stop touching things!". You have no idea what she's been dealing with prior to that. And with Matt we sometimes do just have to ignore a tantrum. If he wants a toy and I say no, there will, without a doubt, be a tantrum. I can try to calm it down but it rarely works and eventually I just push a screaming kid through the store. And if it's just screaming, I'm lucky... usually he's trying to climb out of the cart to run back and grab things off the shelves. So just keep that in mind when you see that mom whom you feel is ignoring her child. It may just be that she said "no" and won't negotiate. The thing you also don't see in these situations is that I have a beautifully behaved child too. But that gets glossed over by the kids who is not easily controlled. Makes me look like a horrible mom, despite the fact I have an amazing daughter to prove that I'm not. Been another rough night with him, can you tell?

Abigail's Mom (29 weeks, 3/21/05) |
|
|
It seems as though I can't keep up in the cafe or here these days. I am so busy at work and quite frankly a bit down in the dumps. I should visit both b/c they are always a source of strenght for me but lately just feel weighed down. Work is busy, lots of lookers at the house but no offers, haven't made a plan to move (and I love a plan), my MIL comes next week to "help", I am writing a grant, I don't feel great physically but not terrible and Abigail is doing well in school with all of the "mental" parts but writing continues to be a struggle and now her best friend is switching schools (so it is going to be a long summer). There I got it all out. Sorry to whine. I feel a bit better now.
Jackie- I am sorry that Matthew is so tough to deal with these days. I can't begin to offer advice b/c I know you have tried everything but just to say that we are here. I have learned to never say never. Like that will never be me with the screaming child. I did that with my sisters and most of it has come back to haunt me. Abigail is actually well-behaved but I swore to never send her to the preschool we did, I swore to not put her in a million activites etc. Definitely not judge people just be sympathetic to their plight. You never know what their day was like at home, at work etc.
Maria- I hope we see Jonathan in about 10 weeks.
Tracy- Are you done at work at the end of the week?
Anyone have fun 3-day weekend plans?
I know today is going to be a better day.

I know! Time is flying by so fast, I love it! Jackie- I don't mean to be judgemental, its just that sometimes I really don't like kids crying. I guess Ive been like that with Chris since he was born. For a long time I over-protected him after loosing out boy so everytime he cried I did whatever I could to calm him. I have seen mothers having to drag their kids out of stores too, rather than feeing bad for the kid, sometimes I do feel bad for the mother. I know how hard it is to have a "bad day" and not want to deal with anything, including your own kid. I've had so many of those days lately, but you just have to the best way you can. Chris will throw tantrums with my mom often, she says she just ignores him and he gets over it quickly. I'm also very opposed to spanking. I have a friend that spanks her kids even in public, I talked to her recently and told her I did not think it was the right way and she said her mother spanked her with the cable, etc. Her kids are small their 4 and 2. I think the naughty chair, time out, taking away toys, turning off the TV has worked better for us.... Ok, I'm getting way off subject, just hope you don't think I'm judgemental. I've been feeling crappy since yesterday, my wisdom tooth has started to bother me. I was up till 6am and then had an appointment so we had to pick up Chris from school, I felt sooo crappy! Hopefully, I can sleep better tonight.

Tracy- We're doing really good, thank you. Johnathan is kicking non-stop, I'll be 29 weeks on Tuesday. Chris is doing good also, he's been keeping me busy now that he's out of school. Next week we'll start taking him to summer activites or else we're all gonna go crazy. How are you doing?
We've been pretty busy, started baby shopping, I'm soooo excited. We're doing a jungle theme for Johnathan. Christopher's was Winnie the Pooh. I can't believe he'll be here soon. We went to the lake yesterday, I got a bad sunburn as well as hubby and Chris. We had a blast though. I have to show off my bikini pic. I was so shy at first but then everybody kept looking at my belly and asking me how far along I was, what I was having. I liked the attention, lol.
Hope you all are doing well and keeping cool, its crazy hot here in GA.

Want an update on my kiddos? The one my father has nicknamed "Typhoid Matt" had gotten me sick.
Kimmie gets sick and she usually keeps it to herself. Matt, on the other hand, seems to pass his germs like crazy! Not sure if it's b/c he sucks his thumb and touches everything, or just because he's in my face all the time. But ugh! I just got up and I'm actually heading back to bed! Thank goodness for the kids being at Grandma's!

Hi ladies, I'm with Tracy where have yall been? Lol.
Thank you all for the compliments, I loved rocking my belly, even though I got sunburned bad. I hope we go back to the lake soon, its so relaxing. I'm now 30 weeks preggo. I can't believe its gone by so fast. I had my 3d ultrasound on Tuesday, I'm gonna share a pic. He has Chris' nose and lips, and he reminds me so much of Luis.
Chris is always all over us too, I love it though. He's been really well lately. Yesterday he asked when we were going to get Johnathan here, it was so cute. I assumed since we're always talking about his little brother he must like but where is he?

Sleeping pills carefully ground into the cake.... No, obviously, I'm kidding! Maybe sleeping pills for you... Speaking of swimming, Matt passed his swim test at our gym yesterday! I was so excited and surprised. I didn't think he was near ready (You have to swim the length of the lap pool without grabbing the wall or touching the ground). He must have spent 20 minutes celebrating and yelling "Yes!" because now it means he can go down the waterslide. Great day for the little guy!

Congrats to Matthew. That is so exciting. I don't think Abigail would make it. She is at swim lessons at another pool and there was some "test" they could take yesterday but she seemed scared (her friends took it) and she said she thought you should ask your parents if you could take it. She seemed disappointed when I said yes.

Jackie~ WOOHOO for Matthew!!! That's awesome!!! Bless his heart....that's something to be excited about! Love the idea of the sleeping pills, but don't think that'll work for either group. I don't wake up from meds too well, and the last thing I need is 4 girls running free througout my house making up their own rules. Ellen~ I hope that Abigail will be able to do her test without fear and can celebrate too. She'll do it when she's ready....she sounds like Ansley, nervous until she's ready. Plans for an afternoon at the pool today, and wouldn't you know, it's raining???! Hopefully it'll pass us this morning and leave the afternoon to play, but this is so rare lately that I can't complain!
