My premmie born at 34weeks that made it...

scardycat - 02:40pm Sep 5, 2011 EST

I'm here to tell you of a survivor of NICU. I have had 2 others that were boys that didn't make it but in 1993 I had my daughter at 34 weeks. She was born 6th April 1993 weighing 3lb 14oz. When she was born she had trouble breathing and spent a few days in NICU. She looked like a skinned rabbit but she was just perfect. When I got home and she was still in hospital I became afraid to go back to see her. I keep thinking if I go back something may go wrong and I just couldn't cope with losing baby number 3. I spoke to a social worker that was there when I lost the others and she was just great. She convinced me to visit her and I look back now and think to myself. Why would you think like that. I was scared. When I took her home I had to dress her in cabbage patch dolls clothes they didn't have preemie clothes back there not like now. It took her a while to catch up to others in size. When she started school she had to sit on 2 large phone books she couldn't see over the table. She 18yrs now and has just applied for the army. She is fit, tough and healthy. I will never forget my boys but I am lucky to have a healthy NICU baby

I too am the parent of a 34 week preemie boy born August 15, 2011. He weighed 5 lb 9 oz at birth and has a birth defect of the lymphatic system. He is currently in the nicu undergoing treatment to shrink the cysts on his neck. They are pressing on his airway causing obstruction when he is not intubated ( he has a breathing tube in now to protect his airway) Even though he has all these obsticles to overcome he amazes and surprises me every day...his story is a long one...and when I get a chance I will post it for you all to read.

MELISSA
