God's Grace
Lexie - 10:23pm Nov 16, 2011 EST
Her story is our miracle. We had wanted her and had to try extra hard to get her. After months of clomid, and each month being very disappointed, we started seeing a fertility specialist. Once we finally got the positive pregnancy test we were of course thrilled. However, we seemed to have irregularities from the start, having five ultrasounds just in the first trimester.
In the second trimester at 21w6d I had an abruption. Nurses came in to offer their condolences for what was about to happen. They started telling me what was going to happen when we would be delivering a stillborn. But God had other plans.
After 4 weeks on bedrest at home, our doctors seems amazed each week that we still had a strong heartbeat. Upon seeing a specialist we learned there was more bleeding going on internally, so we were sent straight to the hospital where I lived for the next 4 weeks. The worse part was being away for so long from our toddler. He was a mama's boy and I was wrapped around his finger. Visits from in in the evening wasn't enough.
They said the placenta was pulled away more than 50%, but she hung on although her growth was slowing b/c of UGR. At 30 weeks they decided to do the c-section (she was measuring 5 weeks behind at this point) and Lexie Grace was born at 1 lb 13oz. She was perfect.
God kept his hand on her and gave us strength make the NICU our 2nd home for 65 days. Lexie never had to go on a vent, or stay on oxygen. She was on low air flow for a couple weeks because she would forget to breath, but she was doing great. It took her a long time to figure out how to drink from a bottle on her own, but once she could do that we got to take her home at 9 1/2 weeks old, 4 lbs 15 oz.
She is 6 months old today and close to 9lbs! A OT comes to the house once a week to help her build her strength, and she is great with her. Lexie still doesn't laugh out loud, or flip from her back to stomach yet, but she can give a smile that lights up our world
She'll catch up soon. We are thankful for both of our children everyday.
