hi my name is angie breahna is my daughter who was a premiee back in 2004 she spend 52...
It's Ok Angie my daughter was born at 34 weeks and she was the same especially in primary school. We held her back in grade 1 and it was a good idea. It took her a while to just get it. All of a sudden it just clicked about grade 5. It could be earlier it depends on the child.
Her teacher said she would and omg she was right.
If your are really concerned speak to her teacher about how shes going and maybe get her checked out if you feel something is not right.
My daughter is now 19 and shes doing a graphic arts course at Tafe.

Welcome to Share Kelly! I'm so sorry to hear of your losses, but am happy to hear of your little fighter Bentley! I know it's hard to be away from your little one, but stay strong...he feels your love!! Check with the hospital social worker to see if there is a place to stay nearby that will allow a huge discount if there's not a Ronald McDonald House. Hang on tight....it's a crazy journey, but being there as much as possible and trying to be a part of his care will help both of you. Tracy

Hello,
My name is Lisa. I gave birth to my beautiful Stella on May 13th (Mother's Day). She was 31 weeks and 3 days. I was induced due to developing preeclampsia. She is my second daughter. My eldest daughter was also early. She was 36 weeks, and stayed in the NICU for four days.
Stella is currently in the NICU and has been doing very well. Her feeding line has just been removed.
I'm hoping someone can tell me what hurdles she needs to accomplish before they will allow her to come home.
Thanks for reading...

Hello Lisa and welcome to Share! Congratulations on the birth of Stella, what a beautiful name! I'm glad to hear that her feeding line has been removed, that's a huge step! Typically babies need to be able to take all of their milk or formula by mouth, they need to be able to maintain their temperature as well as heartrate and oxygen saturation within normal limits and pass the carseat test. Each hospital has different periods of time they have to do all of this in, such as 24 or 48 hours to maintain all of that. The carseat test can vary too, if they do it often it's where they have to be in the carseat and maintain their vitals for the length of time it would take you to drive home plus some extra just in case you run into traffic or other problems. I hope that helps, I may have missed something! I highly reccomend talking to your daughter's nurses and asking them exactly what their goals are for her before releasing her, they would be able to give you the exact requirements!

Hi, I'm Laura. I had my little boy Drake on February 20th at 30+3 gestation. After a 34 day NICU stay, he came home on March 24th. Since then, he has been undergoing treatment for unilateral clubfoot on his left side, recently developed an inguinal hernia on the right and we had to have him taken by ambulance to our local children's hospital after a reflux episode where he became unresponsive. I am having a lot of anger and a long with it feel guilty because I know he has been amazingly healthy and everything he has to fight is completely treatable. I was so scared when I thought we may have lost him. He's such an amazing little fighter.

Hi My name is Helena from Freeport, NY. I am a NICU nurse so I watch the struggles of Parents who have babies in the NICU and parents who have lost their babies. I was 32 weeks pregnant and lost my little Girl Ava Lynn on May 23. Her heart stopped beating in utero from what is believed to have been an abruption. I never got the chance to see her eyes or hear her cry. She is now my little angel.

Hi! My name is Jenn! My partner, Carrie and I, were blessed with Quadruplets that decided to join this world on March 29, 2012 at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando, FL. Carrie had spent weeks there on hospital bedrest. Our little 4 pack was born at 27 weeks 5 days and were all under 2lbs at birth. They are still currently in the NICU but apart from respiratory problems, they are still currently on oxygen, they are doing well and should start coming home by the end of the this month.

Hi! My name is Kristin and I am new to March of Dimes. I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I'm 30 years old and I live in Toledo, Ohio. I've been married to my wonderful husband, Charles, for nine years and we have two beautiful girls together. My oldest, Chyna, will be 12 this July and my youngest daughter, Denise, who was born premature, is 31 months. As you can see by looking at my username, I am an optimist and I put the Lord Jesus Christ above all other things in my life. He is my shephard, my close friend, and Lord of my life. With him I am victorious and I can do all things through him who strengthens me. On another note. I'm here looking for a supportive, online, family. One who understands the challenges of raising a premature baby, who is willing to listen and who offers good advice; and I am also willing to return the favor (to those who want it). Be Blessed

Hello, I am new to Share and wanted to introduce myself. I am Jessica Krimmel. I am 21, married and we have 2 gorgeous daughters, Aspyn and Keyara, who were both in the NICU. Aspyn was born with a low birth weight and Keyara was born silent and began having seizures at just 18 hours old every 15 minutes. Today they are both getting big and doing well, but our time in the NICU was a scary one. It is so nice to know that there is a place for women like me to go to share their experiences, get support and give support.

Hi, my name is Kelly. I am new to march of dimes. I had my son at 25 weeks and 4 days. When he was first born he seemed to be doing good. Then when he was 5 days old he had to go on the ventalatior. He was doing ok. They went to put a bigger tube in but he ended up needing a more serious machine. He is on 100% oxygen and i feel like im losing my mind. I want him to be ok so bad. I lost 2 other babies at 22 weeks. I cant handle losing another. He has chronic lung disease. I want the doctor to tell me hes going to be fine. But i know they cant. He is 23 days old now. He just got sicker 3 days ago. I just dont know what to do with myself. I figured id come on here and try talking to ppl who have gone through this because nobody else understands. I havent even gotten to hold him yet. Ive never been so scared in my entire life.

Hi Kelly! Welcome to Share.
I know how difficult it is to have a baby in the NICU. it's so hard to be so helpless and not know what the future is going to bring.
But don't give up, don't stop hoping, and don't stop loving him. It's the one thing only his mom can do.
You are not alone here on Share. So many of us have been in your shoes and we'll be here for you every step of the way.
Hugs,
Jackie

Hi Kelly, I'm praying hard for you and your baby! I read on another of your posts about how you blame your body and how you found it difficult to bond with your baby during pregnancy. Please try and stop blaming yourself, even though it's really tough. I remember telling my husband that my body 'betrayed' me when I lost our son at 25w. Am currently 17w pregnant 4th time around (had two miscarriages in between) and am finding it hard to bond with this baby - always ready for everything to go downhill. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself. Warmest wishes and hugs to you and Bentley.

My name is Josephine. I'm 21, not married, but I am with my daughter's father. My baby girl Amaya was born at 24 weeks and 6 days gestation. She weighed 1LB 1oz. Now, at 5 weeks old, she weighs 2LB 5oz and she is breathing 50% on her own. Everyday when we go to visit her in the NICU, we feel as if we are looking at a new baby (in a good way). You can tell she is packing on the pounds and she can't wait to get out of there just as much as we can't wait for her to get out! I really hope my story encourages you all to stay positive in a very hard time. Besides, if you're not staying strong for them, who is?

Hi,
My name is Faby Ryan. My husband Daniel and I have been married for three and a half years. We were extatic when we found out we were pregnant and it was really happening this time (we had three miscarriages before this pregnancy). Emma is a twin, but we sadly lost her twin in our first trimester. My daughter Emma Isabella Ryan was born May 3,2012 at 27 weeks gestation. She was 1lb 20z 103/4" Emma has been in the NICU 55 days today. Emma is our little miracle and a little fighter. She has been through so much already. She has been on an occilator vent since she was born, has gone through a PDA ligation surgery and is currently on steroid treatment to help with all the fluid and inflamation of her lungs. My little miracle continues to fight!

Hi i'm Heather, I am 21yrs old.
I recently had twin girls at 24 weeks on april 18, 2012.
Maddison was the biggest she was 1lb 5oz and clarissa was 1lb 1.3oz.
The girls are still in the NICU. Maddison is now 3lb 3 oz and clarissa is 3lb 2.3 oz. It is very stressful to be a parent of the NICU to say the least. The girls are both still on the oscelator and oxygen levels still pretty high. its scary! Both girls have also had about 5 blood transfusions each.
I'm so proud of my girls and all they've accomplished, theyre doing good with their feed, they're both up to 9ml / hr! they've almost tripled their birth weight. however their lungs are still in pretty bad shape. Since they've been on the oscelator for so long, the tissue between their lungs and bloodstream had developed scaring which makes it hard for the oxygen to get from the lungs to the bloodstream. The only way to help this scaring is by lowering the girls oxygen and mean pressure, but the girls arent allowing that too much. so all we can do is pray.
Both maddie and clarissa have exhibated themselves twice and exhibated a few other times as well, its very scary we didnt know if maddie was going to make it the first time. All we can do is hope and pray that theyll get better.
We recently signed up for the march of dimes and will be walking on sep. 16 , and the girls will be in an article in the newspaper through the march of dimes! My fiancee and I are very excited!

hi, my name is sarah and i'm a 27 yr old new mother. everett was born at 28 wks 2 days, at 2 lbs 10 oz, and now he's 34 wks at 4 lb 1 oz. i had hoped to have a natural homebirth but got the exact opposite. on good days, i believe it was the Great Mystery's way of teaching me surrender, acceptance, and patience. on bad days, I wonder if I'll ever be able to have a full term baby, or a VBAC. BUT, every day I am concious that my son is a MIRACLE!

Hi, my name is Amanda and I'm 29 years old. I had our first baby, Patrick, on May 1, 2012 at 25 weeks 1 day. I was in the hospital on bedrest for 8 days before he was born. I had severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP syndrome, but still felt completely fine, but the doctors decided he needed to come out before I got sicker. I had had a completely normal and easy pregnancy before then. Patrick lived for 37 days in the NICU before he couldn't fight anymore, and passed away on June 7. I am still having a pretty rough time...
