23 WEEKERS!

beaumonta - 06:55am Feb 26, 2012 EST

Dear parents of 23 weekers,

I am in my senior year of High school in Australia and as part of our school curriculum we have the opportunity to do a indepth research project on any thing we like. After watching a program on TV on the subject of neonatal births in particular those of 23 weekers it really hit some chords, and since then i have been passionate about learning about the reality of saving 23 weekers- from a parents point of view, a doctors point of view and the social costs. I stubbled across this site a couple of weeks ago and i was just hit from all the parents who support and comfort each other on this site, and i was hoping that if there were any parents out there of 23 weekers who would be willing to talk with me. Even if it just describes what you went through and the troubles you are facing now. Alternatively i have created a questioner which if you were happy to fill out, would really benefit me.

During my research i have been fortunate enough for a family to accept me to interview them at the hospital and follow them around. After 156 days in hospital Matilda is now coming home. Although no complications have yet been found it has been an amazing experience to be able to see such a small baby develop into a full size baby.

I thank you all for your time, and if you feel comfortable I would love to hear from you.

Thank you

Antoinette

Hello Antoinette my son was born at 28 weeks but was 5 weeks behind in growth. His development at the time of birth was considered that of a 23 weeker. He was a severe IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction) baby. I don't know if this fits your research project guidelines. If so I would be willing to fill out your questioner. My sons story is posted on here under JACOB'S JOURNEY dated 11-29-09 @ 7:02 am JSJMOMMY
