My New Little Bundle of Joy!!!!averymom3 - 09:10pm May 5, 2012 ESTI just recently gave birth to twin boys 2 weeks ago today. They were born prematurely at 27 weeks. Twin A (Parker) was born 2 lbs and 12 oz and Twin B (Piper) was born 2 lbs 9 oz. The oldest twin has pneumonia. I am trying to deal with this the best way that I can, because I also have a 2 year old daughter. But I'm scared, nervous, anxious, and sad. I mean, I'm happy that they are here, but I'm sad that they are having to stay in the NICU. This has been very difficult for me and my family. I have been crying and praying around the clock daily. Can someone give me some coping methods to help ease my mind a little. Thank you for taking time out to give me some advice and please keep my family lifted up in prayer as I do the same for you and yours...

Come to ShareUnion 2012: It's the BEST weekend ever!!! |

Hi and welcome to Share. Welcome to the world Parker and Piper, I love their names!! My best advice is to just take things one day at a time. If that seems too overwhelming take things one hour at a time. Take frequent breaks and allow yourself to take time for YOU to relax and destress a little. Get a massage, go out to dinner, visit with friends/family. Make sure you take care of you, that way you are better able to care for them. I hope you keep us updated.

I guess I will probably just echo what everyone else is saying but I think it's great advice not to get down on yourself. When your pregnancy ends too early. I think it's a common reaction to think it was somehow "your fault" it's taken me almost two yrs to realize I did the best I could with the information I had at the time. I'm sure you did too!! This site is a great reasource. I am glad u found the moms here. Ask us as many questions as you want. Don't be afraid to ask the doctors and nurses whatever you want to ask. Don't let them make you feel stupid, or weepy. They see this sort of thing everyday, but you don't! Sometimes, I think they forget that... Also, don't let other friends and family try to tell you when it's time to "move on" from your pregnancy and it's early end. when it's right you will know...
I wish you the best in your NICU stay. I hope your boys meet thier goals and get out as soon as possible.

averymom3 - Breathe momma:) I do hope the NICU staff is making you feel welcome. Going and visiting each day can be draining and it helps when the nurses take the time to explain and model how they do things. I hope they are encouraging you to hold them and do Kangarou care if you and the babies are able to. I SO understand feeling the guilt for leaving your two year old to go and be with the twins at the hospital. Believe me when I say that there will come a time when you will be thrilled to get away (even if it's just to tool around Target). Maybe you're not feeling up to going out (I wasn't either), but sitting outside with a favorite beverage could be a good thing. I hope it was a good day for you and them at the NICU. Here for you anytime.

Hello I know how hard it is also to leave your baby in the nicu I delivered my daughter at 29 weeks and 1 day I developed strep in my amniotic sac thank god we got it early sophia was 3 lbs 5 oz she required nip-v and some other stuff in the NICU. I found it hard to leave the Hospital but I knew she was where she needed to be I spent hours on end there called everyday to check on her some babies do not have their parents there with them. The staff was great at Yale New Haven some nurses I did not care for but for the most part every staff member from the drs down were wonderful. they let my daughter come home at 34.5 weeks on Christmas eve I was so scared prayed alot. But never be afraid to ask questions and if you do not understand what someone is saying ask to talk to someone else. I had a hard time because some drs and nurses spoke broken english I felt weird asking questions to them because I feel like they were looking at me like this chick is nuts lol. I did kangaroo care it was the best feeling in the world I pumped for Sophia she did not really take to breast feeding but I am happy I was able to give her breastmilk for the first 3 months. How are your little ones now?

Thanks to all that have commented so far. Your kind words, and advice has been wonderful music to my ears. The boys are making some improvements. The oldest, Parker had pnuemonia/infection in his lungs and now it is slowly clearing up. He now weighs 2 lbs 14 oz. Piper had a rough day today, his oxygen and heart rate kept dropping a little so the Drs changed the way he was being fed along with giving them both glycerins to help their bowels. Piper is 3 lbs so Parker is 2 oz away from being 3 lbs. The Doctors and the nursing staff have made me feel very comfortable. And you all as well. Thank you sooooo much for all of you and please continue to keep us all in your prayers as we continue to pray for you all....
