PFO a congenital heart defect

pensacolanative - 12:38am Jan 29, 2012 EST

My daughter is now 4 (She just turned 4 on Jan 21) We went to her Dr. on Thursday for a weight check and to get a refill on her asthma meds and the found she had an irregular heartbeat and did an EKG. They ordered a bunch of lab work (That went horribly wrong- had to stick her 3 times) and have to have a heart ultrasound sometime this coming week. She had a PFO in the NICU, but I assumed it had resolved itself (She had 4 intestinal surgeries, 2 eye surgeries, hypothyroidism, adrenal hypo function, and numerous other things going on.) Now, I am thinking is that what they are going to find when she has the ultrasound?? She is off the BMI chart now (27 lbs, and 37 3/4 inches tall- she is weighing a pound less than she did last year at this time.) Anyone with any info on this heart condition and my main question is " Can it resolve itself?" I dug out her NICU discharge paper and they said "Follow clinically" But, we totally overlooked it somehow and now we are SO freaked out. I have researched it online but, it doesn't say if it can just fix itself or not. it does say that some PFO's can be fixed with a heart catherization, but the nearest hospital that can even perform that on kids is 5 hours away in Gainsville (I live in Pensacola Fl) Any info would be greatly appreciated. We go back this Thursday to find out the results.
