My Little Fighter
wendy.grando - 06:17am Feb 4, 2012 EST
My daughter is and was a little fighter since she was born. She was born at 24 weeks(6 months). The day that I went into labor I was working and it was Sunday so my doctors office was close, I had to call the on call doctor. I couldn't believe the words that came out of his mouth after I told him my symptoms, "Your in labor". I couldn't believe it because I just had turned 6 months. I called my husband and told him what was going on. She was our first child. He took me to the hospital. I went in at 2:15pm Sunday July 12 and at 6:42pm our daughter Evianna was born she only weight 1 lbs. 8 oz. I didn't even get to see her or hold her. This is not what I imagine my delivery to be. I imagine holding her looking at her, counting her figures and toes. I remember praying for her to breath, because she wasn't responding to the CPR they were preforming on her. I kept asking my husband what was going on he couldn't even talk because he didn't want to cry. Suddenly she started to breath and her heart started to bet. The doctor and his team took her to the NICU down the hall. Then the doctor came in to let me know that she was doing okay but that it was hour by hour situation and anything could happen. He told me all the things she could suffer when she got older, breathing problems, heart problems, brain problems. I didn't get to see her until 11pm that night. She was so tiny and I couldn't believe that she was not inside me taking care of her like a mother should have. She was connected to all this machines and breathing tube. I never wish for any other mother to see there baby like that, it was horrible. The nurse told me that the first week was going to be the honeymoon stage like they called it because everything will look like it is going okay, then the roller coaster will start, and it did. She went to the highest breathing machine they had at there, and it happened all of a sudden. Her nurse told us to go get something to eat and when we came back there was a doctor from Choc Hospital, her doctor, two respiratory especial lest and two nurses her incubator top was up, I didn't have a good feeling. I lost it and started to cry because I felt that I could lose her any minute. One of the nurse told me that they put her to sleep with 3 types of sedation so it was like she was in a coma because it was to dramatic for her. I could see her little body shaking because the machine gave her little fast breaths of air. I couldn't believe my daughter was going through this. She fought her way out of the breathing machine, the tube in her mouth, the nasal canola, until she felt that she could breath on her own. We went through a lot felt like we lost her two times, once her heart rate won't go up, then she had a fever that won't go down. The doctor decided to do a spinal tap to make sure it wasn't more serious. She was in the NICU 117 days. Finally I got to bring her home, no machines, no oxygen. Now she is 2 years old, healthy, developing great. She does have asthma, but they told me it was normal since she did have fluid in her lungs. She is every independent, and fast. She loves to fight. I know that because she fought, was feisty, and determent to live, she made it.
