My Birth
Drummerette - 05:36pm Jun 14, 2012 EST
This is a story about my own birth. I was born at 24 weeks and weighed just about 1 pound. (I joke that it was the only time me height/age were proportionate, as I was 22inches) I want to share my story with others out there to let them know that having a healthy preemie can happen more often than you think.
A lot of the complications I feel had something to do with my mother being 4'11 and 99lbs when she got pregnant with me. She was very tiny in every aspect. She needed an emergency C-section and the last thing she heard before she blacked out was "save the baby!" From what she tells me is that her heart stopped during the process and she needed to be revived. (She jokes and yells at me for 'killing' her)
Thankfully I was born with the proper amount of limbs, fingers, toes, etc. My main issue was my lungs were stuck together. Once I was given the appropriate treatment I was doing well. I spent 3 months in the hospital and ended up going home in December. My mom is still thankful that Cabage Patch dolls had just come out with a winter series, since I wore a winter coat home.
I like to share my story because I'm a healthy, happy young adult now. I graduate from college with a B.A in May 2011 and I'm working full time at a law firm. I want this to be a story of hope for parents out there.
